Advice on sponsoring a high school student to Japan?
So I'm moving to Japan when I'm and want to sponsor a friend who will be seventeen by then and wants to attend high school there. Would she need a parent's permission for me to sponsor her?

I have no experience with high school programs in Japan, but for language courses, the sponsor has to be closely related to the student. It is likely that the same rule applies to high school students, but double check with the school in question. In that case, the only way you can sponsor her for a visa is probably by transferring the requested amount to the student's or her parent's account. However, once she is in Japan you should be able to pay for her living costs etc without problem. It is only when applying for a program and student visa that a formal sponsor related to the student is needed.
