Japan Colleges for international students?

I love Japan! Since childhood I have been obsessed with Japanese culture. After a trip there earlier this year I am convinced that I want to experiencing living there. Go to college in Japan and maybe stay there long term. What colleges in Japan are available for international students? I am interested in design, anime, manga but I am also doing a bit of programming so I am open to suggestions.

Answer:

If you want to live and study long term in Japan you will need to learn Japanese. There are two main education paths that international students can choose from if they want to go to college in Japan:

  1. Either you start by learning Japanese at a Japanese Language School where you can study for up to 80 weeks on a student visa. This gives you a much bigger choice of colleges since most programs in Japan are taught in Japanese.
  2. Alternatively you can take a degree in English at a college where they teach Japanese as a minor. We can currently help you with this at Yamanashi Gakuin University where you for example can take a Bachelor's Degree in Interdisciplinary Arts or Data Science, and Kyoto University of Advanced Science where you can take degrees focusing on Mechatronics, IT, Mechanics, Electronics.

Practical and creative subjects such as design, anime, and Manga are primarily taught at Japanese Vocational Colleges - Senmon Gakko. The programs there are 2-3 years long and are always taught in Japanese, so then you will need to choose option 1 above and start with a language course. We can help you to study at a Senmon Gakko called Akademeia 21st Century consisting of 17 vocational colleges in Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, and Kyushu.
