Which countries can get a Working Holiday visa to Korea?
I read that you can't get a student visa to study at private language schools in Korea, but some nationals can apply for a Working Holiday visa. I am from Belgium and my girlfriend is from Uruguay. Can we take a language course in Korea on a Working Holiday visa?Asked by: Lucas, 168 days, 13 hours, and 14 minutes ago
Answer:
South Korea offers the Working Holiday Visa (H-1) to young individuals (typically aged 18-30) from specific countries to work and travel in Korea. You are also allowed to take a language course on this visa. According to our latest information citizens of the following countries are eligible for the H-1 visa:
- Australia
- Austria
- Belgium
- Canada
- Czech Republic
- Denmark
- Finland
- France
- Germany
- Hong Kong
- Hungary
- Ireland
- Israel
- Italy
- Japan
- Netherlands
- New Zealand
- Poland
- Portugal
- Spain
- Sweden
- Taiwan
- United Kingdom
- United States
The Working Holiday Visa (H-1) to South Korea can generally be obtained only once in a lifetime. It is designed for young people who wish to experience living and working in South Korea temporarily. Be aware that the visa policies, including eligibility and work restrictions, may change over time. To ensure you have the most up-to-date information, it is advised to consult an official source such as the HiKorea website.
To get a Working Holiday visa you will need to show proof of $3000 USD plus a return ticket according to our latest data, so it is less money than for a student visa where $10000 is required.
So in conclusion, as a Belgian citizen you can apply for a Working Holiday visa to Korea if you are between 18 and 30 years old, but unfortunately your girlfriend can not since Uruguay is currently not on the list.
Citizens from Uruguay, Belgium and many other countries can visit Korea visa free for up to 90 days before they have to leave the country (then you can potentially come back for another 90 days...). So her primary option would either be to take a shorter course on visa waiver or to study at a Korean University Language Institute where she can get a D4 student visa.
