Why Study at Oxford International Study Centre

 International awards and recognitions

OISC is accredited by the Independent Schools’ Inspectorate, and has been judged to ‘exceed expectations’ in all areas for the quality of education in the last five inspections.

Established in 2006, we are extremely proud of our strong international connections, accreditations, and membership of various organisations dedicated to the promotion of quality education worldwide. These include:

  • COBIS...Council of British International Schools
  • SGIS... .Swiss Group of International Schools
  • EAIE.... .European Association for International Education
  • ECIS......European Collaborative for International Schools
  • EATP..... European Association of Training Providers

Flexibility and individualised programmes

For every student we tailor our programmes to meet their needs. Some students have tuition in small groups, others individually, and oftern a combination of the these. With such a wide range of subjects we advise students on the best choice for them.... whether it is a short vacation programme or a one/two year pre-university course. International students often support their academic subject choices with English Language tuition , usually for IELTS.

Excellent links with the University of Oxford and other British and European Universities and Schools

This enables our students  to be taught in the Colleges of the University in the vacations., and to become Associate Members of the Oxford Union. Fully residential courses in the University are offered in summer . University tutors regularly contribute to courses as visiting speakers.

Many of our students proceed to UK universities, and we provide them with individual counselling on their choices.

We have good links with a large number of British and European Schools, enabling younger students to prepare for entry to some of the best Boarding Schools.

Programmes and Examinations

English Language Programmes

We have many years’ experience in helping students improve their English Language skills in a friendly, international setting. All tutors on English Language programmes are native speakers, and are at least CELTA-qualified. Several also have the Diploma Level (DELTA) qualification.

We offer both individual and group tuition with levels from Beginners to Advanced. Students wishing to take group tuition are placed into the most suitable class based on both their age and their level of English, which is assessed before arrival using our pre-course placement test.

We offer :

  • General English ,
  • Business English and other specialisms eg for Law, or Sciences,
  • IELTS and Cambridge examination preparation.

Course length is flexible: students can join a course for as little as 1 week, or for any number of weeks up to 1 or 2 years. We typically recommend at least 2 weeks for a short course.

All students receive a Certificate of Attainment, showing their level, when they finish their course.

Pre-University Programmes

Most students take 3 ALevel, or 5 GCSE subjects , from a choice of over 30. We also offer a Foundation course in Business. Class sizes are small ... an average of 5 students. Many students take IELTS alongside their chosen subjects.

Oxford and Cambridge preparation

We assist a number of students in applying to Oxford or Cambridge . These universities have interviews and entrance tests in November and December.  All the tutors involved are themselves graduates of Oxford or Cambridge, and are experienced tutors.

Vacation courses

We offer short courses at Easter and in summer, as well as half terms , in English and a choice of academic subjects .

Gap Year programmes

These are 3, 6, 9 or 12 months , with a personalised schedule and a choice of over 30 subjects.

Welcome to Oxford !

Oxford is famous worldwide for its prestigious university, the oldest in the English-speaking world. The Victorian poet Matthew Arnold called Oxford 'The City of Dreaming Spires' after the stunning architecture of the University Colleges. It is an inspiring place in which to study.... over 1000 years of history, and Colleges dating from the 13th to the 20th century. The city itself is quite small, and the central area is very green.... all the Colleges (there are over 40) have "quads" which are like small parks in the centre of this busy city.

The city is very cosmopolitan , attracting students and visitors from all over the world. It is a City of Art, Music and Culture....   the home of Europe's oldest Museum, the Ashmolean , with its extensive collections or Western and Eastern Art. Almost all types of music are heard here, from classical orchestras to reggae.    But Oxford is also at the forefront of technology, the birthplace of  many new developments,  from artificial intelligence and robotics to vaccines.

Oxford is about one hour from London by train , and to the west of the city are the beautiful Cotswold Hills and Stratford, Shakepeare's birthplace. The regular programme of cultural visits at OISC includes not only  the historic sites of Oxford, but also excursions to London, Bath, Stratford , Stonehenge and other places of cultural importance.

OISC is located on St Aldates, in the very centre of Oxford, between Christ Church, Oxford most famous College, and the Town Hall, and surrounded by other Colleges of the University. The study centre occupies a beautiful and historic building, with many original features, and houses 10 classrooms, as well as office space, common rooms, and private study areas. There is a second site in St Giles, a medieval boulevard about 5 minutes walk from the centre. This is the OISC Academic Centre, where ALevels, GCSE,  and Foundation courses are taught.
