Five forgotten colleges in the US

Do you want to study at a college in the US? Make sure to make the most of your studies abroad. Here are five exciting schools that can offer you a unique college experience.

The first four schools below are Community Colleges where may take a two-year Associate Degree and then transfer directly into year three on a Bachelor’s Degree program at an American university. Starting at a Community College is the most economical way to take a Bachelor in the US.

Lake Tahoe Community College - one of America's most beautiful places

Lake Tahoe is a large lake located north of Yosemite amid the American Alps of Sierra Nevada, California. Lake Tahoe has been voted one of America's most beautiful places in numerous polls. Rough Guides recently rated Lake Tahoe as the eighth most beautiful place in the United States, ahead of national parks like Yellowstone, and Funzine ranked Lake Tahoe as one of the world's ten most beautiful lakes. There is a wide range of sports and nature activities available here such as water sports, hiking, mountain climbing, and skiing.

Lake Tahoe Community College is a friendly school with 3000 students per semester of which about 40 are international. Here it's easy to make American friends. Class sizes are small, and the teachers get top grades from their students. After two years many students transfer to the prestigious University of California and California State University systems.

Seattle Central College - study in one of America's trendiest cities

Less known to international students, Seattle is one of the trendiest cities in the US. It is the home to companies like Starbucks, Amazon, Boeing, and Microsoft. It has been voted the best US City For Culture, and it is also one of the most beautiful cities in the USA with a mild climate and perfect summer weather. Unlike many American cities, it is quite easy to get around on foot, by bicycle or by public transportation in Seattle.

Seattle Central College is conveniently located right in the center of the city. It is the most flexible school in this list. Here they have 350 days of sunshine per year. The famous national park Joshua Tree lies next door and the well known Palm Springs International Film Festival takes place once a year. Concordia College - in a quiet suburb of New York

New York City needs no introduction. It is a world-class city that offers endless entertainment, shopping and attractions. Studying and living in the middle of New York can be stressful as living costs are high and you are constantly surrounded by noise and people. Most colleges in Manhattan only consist of some office-like buildings and lack a real campus. Therefore, it may be a good idea to study in a suburb like Bronxville, half an hours train ride from central New York.

This is the location of the classic Concordia College on a lush campus, designed by the same architect as the main building on well-known Ellis Island. It is a four-year college where you can choose between taking English courses, Study Abroad semesters or a Freshman year in the fields of Pre-Engineering, Business or Digital Media / Video Production. Then you can proceed to a Bachelor's Degree in a variety of subjects for another three years of study. Study in a peaceful environment from where you can quickly travel into bustling Manhattan in the afternoons and on weekends.
